Music has always been an area I’ve shown interest in. Aside from the common love of music that consists of head banging in the car and air guitaring at parties, I love the part of music where you play until your fingers bleed. There’s something magical about playing music and feeling the song with every part of yourself, and not stopping until your guitar is literally covered in blood, sweat, and tears. Playing guitar has helped me through some of the roughest obstacles I’ve encountered so far. I decided to take up a project in the music field, so I have another way to stay involved in the music community and help spread its affects to new people. I have played bass for three years and am part of a small band. Overtime, I have learned some of the best ways to self-teach music and have acquired a handful of guitars. I have also helped point newer musicians in the right direction to learn how to play on their own.
People can’t enjoy the benefits of music if they don’t have a way to get involved. My goal is to reach out to parts of the community and introduce them to the basics of music, more specifically guitar and bass. I plan on traveling to schools and teaching everything you need to know to get started for guitar or bass. I want to bring my guitars and allow people to hold and play them, therefore giving them the opportunity to connect with the instrument. I would also like to involve local bands and music stores, so they can promote themselves and expand in the music community. My end goal is to have music extend its powers across the valley, and so far, this is my plan to do so. Getting involved in music can be expensive and scary. I don’t want people to be frightened off from the beginning. Lessons can get very expensive very quickly. Although lessons are the most efficient and in-depth way to learn, there are cheaper alternatives. I have gathered resources that I think will be helpful when learning to play. Of course, there is much more to explore and pick up as you begin to learn. Also, don’t feel compelled to buy a new instrument. Used in instrument are cheaper and can be just a good if you know what to look for. Another thing that may keep a lot of people from playing is the amount of work involved. Yes, picking up a new instrument is a lot of work, but it gets easier with time. It also pays off and opens up a whole new world for people. All in all, I don’t want people to fear learning to play.
